What a day (or more like, what a night)!
We have been experiencing some wonderful weather in Santa Barbara, and it was so warm that Nick and I decided it was time to invest in an outdoor blow-up pool.
Graham and I went shopping for the pool (and an air pump) and Daddy made plans to set it up first thing in the morning so the water would get warm and it would be ready for an afternoon of play.
Everything went perfectly and Graham had a blast! He was in and out of the pool for a good two hours. He lounged with Daddy, splashed Daddy, used his shovel and rake to clean the bottom of the pool, and loved watching the water spill out as he crawled onto the grass:
He also thought it was especially fun to take his ball out of the pool and run around with it on the deck:
By all accounts, it would have been a pleasant, but normal, afternoon with Graham. What made it ‘post-worthy’ was what happened afterwards…
Graham took a warm bath to get cleaned off from his outdoor play. He seemed subdued and tired so we thought it made sense to put him down for a short nap. Well… that short nap (starting at 4pm) lasted until 8am this morning. No dinner, no pajamas, no bedtime story, nothing. Our little man was a spent force. We have been using the term ‘spent force’ to refer to our son, when he is just beat from the day’s events, but never has there been a truer illustration of the phrase than from his display yesterday afternoon to this morning. We think the phrase originated from a Shakespeare quote (possibly from Macbeth). “He is now a spent force: exhausted so much so of life’s torment.”
Oh Graham, Mommy and Daddy understand, a full day of intense play is really more than any baby can be expected to handle ;) We love you!
