Graham’s new potty arrived today. We got him a 3 in 1 ducky potty that can be a standalone potty or the seat can be removed and attached to a full size toilet and the rest of the potty converts to a stepping stool. The potty will also play a celebratory tune when there is a successful pee pee or poo poo in the potty.
Graham was really excited to open the box but once he got the potty out, he didn’t like it at all and kept picking it up and saying “all done potty” and putting it back in the box.
Once we moved the potty into the bathroom and he realized the potty was a toilet, he became much more excited.
First, he got comfortable sitting on the potty:
Next, he learned about sitting on the potty (with the intent to do something) and then getting up and closing the lid when he was done. I got a video clip. He basically sat, stood, closed, repeat about 10 times in a row:
He eventually progressed to the final step of washing his hands but I didn’t get any evidence of that.
Finally, we had success. He sat down and said “poo poo” while he waited and then stood up having gone poo poo!
The only problem was that his diaper and pajama pants were still on ;)
Looks like our boy isn’t quite potty trained yet. I think Graham will be closer to 3 when he is actually ready to potty train, but he loves his new potty and I give him a chance to sit on it (without pants on) whenever he asks. He usually says “sit on toilet, go poo poo” or “nakie [naked] sit on toilet” but nothing much happens and then he stands up and says “all done toilet, wash hands.”
Daddy was away on a business trip when Graham got the potty (yes, I’m back posting again) but when he got home, he treated Graham to the very first reading of his new book that we bought to go along with the potty (The Potty Train – All Aboard, Chugga Chugga Poo Poo!) (22 months, 6 days old):
Being both a train and book lover, Graham thought story time with Daddy (with the new book) was loads of fun.
