The Cast is Off! (18 months, 27 days old)

Today was Graham’s big day!  We got him up bright and early this morning to head to the doctor’s office.  I made sure to have my camera with me so I could document the entire visit :)
The plan was to remove Graham’s cast and then get some x-rays to see how his leg was healing and to determine if a new cast should be put on.
Graham seemed a little skeptical as he was watching the nurse prepare the equipment for the cast removal:

Did you notice the “Z” at the base of his cast?  Graham’s buddy Zane came all the way to Santa Barbara yesterday to see (and sign) Graham’s cast before it was removed:

Anyway, back to the appointment…
Everyone in the room was given a mask to wear as the cast was being sawed off.  Graham thought that was pretty fun, but had no intention of actually wearing his mask:

Same went for those silly earmuffs the nurse tried to offer him:

Graham was still curious and unsuspecting as the nurse slipped a guide down into his cast to assist with the removal:

Then… the noise of the saw came on and Graham was not too pleased.  It didn't hurt him at all, but the saw was loud and it scared him.  I think the pictures and video speak for themselves.  Poor little guy:

As soon as the noise stopped, Graham calmed down and watched as the nurse pried open the cast:

There it is!  His leg is back:

Bye-bye cast:

Graham was kicking his legs asking to walk, but we didn’t want to test out his newly exposed leg until after the x-rays:

The x-ray room looked familiar but it wasn’t until Daddy put Graham on the table, that Graham remembered it was a place he didn’t like:

The doctor looked at the x-rays and examined Graham’s leg and felt really good about what he saw:

He said the x-rays showed that the leg had healed and he thought we would not be able to tell (even with an x-ray) a year from now that the leg had ever been injured.  The final test was to see how Graham would react when allowed to put weight on his leg.  Our boy was a champ.  He held Mamas legs for a few moments then took those first tentative steps:

Graham hasn’t started sprinting around yet, but he is clearly able to put weight on the leg and is happy to be walking around and testing out what he feels comfortable doing with his new found freedom.  The doctor gave us the thumbs up to let Graham go back to full and normal activity!
We headed home for a big treat.  After two weeks of waiting, it was bath time!  Mommy scrubbed while Graham played, splashed, and even practiced swimming with kicking, blowing bubbles, and all:

Welcome back sweet boy!  You were so brave.  Mommy and Daddy can’t wait to hear the pitter-patter of little feet again <3
